Heading home to Delhi from Queensland this summer? Here is how the route works, how long it really takes, and how to book it without the stress.
Quick answer: is there a non-stop flight from Brisbane to Delhi?
No. There is currently no non-stop Brisbane to Delhi service, so most itineraries are one-stop. The common connections are Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Dubai, or Sydney and Melbourne. Total journey times range from about 14 to 16 hours via Singapore to around 22 hours via the Middle East. Fares start from AUD $647 per person one-way (checked 2 October 2026, prices change daily). Queensland schools finish on Friday 11 December 2026, so the summer rush is close.
Why there is no non-stop Brisbane to Delhi flight
Brisbane does not have a non-stop service to Delhi today. Every itinerary we book includes one stop, usually in Asia, sometimes in the Middle East, and sometimes in another Australian city.
That is not bad news. A stop of two to four hours breaks a long day into two manageable legs. Children get to stretch, eat a proper meal and run off some energy. And because several airlines compete on the route, you have more choice of dates, cabins and fares than a single non-stop service would give you.
The key is choosing the right hub for your family, not just the lowest number on the screen.
The main one-stop routes from Brisbane to Delhi
Here are the connections our Brisbane travellers use most. Journey times are approximate, include the stop, and depend on the connection you choose.
Stop | Approx. total journey | Good to know |
Singapore | About 14 to 16 hours | Usually the shortest total journey. Easy airport for families and a wide choice of connection times. |
Kuala Lumpur | About 18 hours | Often competitive on price. Two departures a day give you some flexibility. |
Hong Kong or Bangkok | Varies with the connection | Worth comparing when Singapore fares are high. Check the layover length before you book. |
Dubai | About 22 hours | A longer way round, but can suit travellers who want a specific airline or cabin. |
Sydney or Melbourne | Varies with the connection | A short domestic hop, then a long-haul leg to Delhi. Handy if you are visiting family down south on the way. |
A shorter layover means a shorter day, but it leaves less room if your first flight is delayed. For families with young children or elderly parents, we usually suggest a connection of two to four hours.
When to fly: seasons, days and the Queensland school holidays
December and January are among the busiest months of the year for flights from Australia to India. Thousands of families want to be in Delhi for the summer break, and they all want to fly in the same two or three weeks.
Queensland families have a small advantage. Queensland state schools finish Term 4 on Friday 11 December 2026. Victorian and New South Wales government schools finish a week later, on Friday 18 December. If you can fly out between 12 and 17 December, you are ahead of the biggest wave of southern demand.
A few more patterns we see every year:
Midweek departures are often cheaper than Friday, Saturday and Sunday flights.
The cheaper fare classes close first. The fare you see today is usually the lowest you will see for December.
Returns in the last week of January fill fast, because everyone wants to be back before school starts. Coming home a few days earlier can help.
Today, Brisbane to Delhi fares start from AUD $647 per person one-way (checked 2 October 2026, prices change daily). With the holidays about ten weeks away, October is the month to book.
6 booking tips for flights Brisbane to Delhi
1. Book in October for December travel
Waiting for a sale rarely works for peak season. Seats sell, fare classes close and prices step up. Book now. Tip 5 covers the cost.
2. Compare the hub, not just the price
Two fares that look similar can give you very different days. Check the layover length, whether you arrive in Delhi at a sensible hour, and how easy the connecting airport is with children and luggage.
3. Fly before the Friday rush
School finishes on Friday 11 December. Flights that night and on Saturday 12 December go first. A Tuesday or Wednesday departure the following week is often easier on the budget.
4. Check your Delhi arrival time
Many one-stop itineraries land in Delhi late at night or very early in the morning. Arrange your pickup in advance and tell family which terminal you arrive at (see below).
5. Spread the cost with PayLite
You do not need the full fare today. PayLite lets you secure your seats with a low initial deposit and spread the balance over weekly instalments, finishing before you fly. It is available on selected refundable fares. We explain it step by step in our PayLite guide.
6. Students and education staff: join MannPass
Studying or working at a Queensland university, TAFE or school? Verified Australian students and education staff can join MannPass for free and take an extra AUD $25 off eligible return flights to India.
Arriving at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, Terminal 3
All international flights into Delhi use Terminal 3, so whichever airline you choose from Brisbane, you will land at T3. Arrivals are on the ground level, and the terminal operates 24 hours a day.
After landing you clear immigration, collect your bags and walk out to the arrivals hall where family can meet you. Have your passport and your Indian visa or OCI card ready before you reach the counter.
Flying on to Amritsar, Chandigarh or another Indian city? Terminal 3 handles domestic flights too, but some domestic services use Terminal 1. Check the terminal on your onward ticket and allow plenty of time between flights.

Travelling with the family from Brisbane
Many of our Brisbane bookings are families travelling with children and grandparents. A few things that make the day easier:
Book everyone on one booking. It keeps seats together and makes changes simpler.
Ask for seats early. Bassinets, bulkhead rows and seats together are limited on busy December flights.
Check baggage allowances before you pack gifts. Allowances differ by airline and fare type.
Travelling with elderly parents? Ask us about wheelchair assistance and special meals when you book, not at the airport.
Sort your documents now. Australian passport holders need an Indian visa or OCI card. Apply well before you fly.
