Heading home to Kerala from Perth? Here is how the one-stop routes compare, how long the trip really takes, and what to sort out before you fly.
Quick answer: how do I fly from Perth to Kochi?
There are no non-stop flights from Perth to Kochi. Nearly everyone flies one-stop, through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or a Gulf hub such as Doha or Dubai. A tight Asian connection gets you door to door in about 12 to 14 hours. Gulf routes take longer, usually 18 to 22 hours, but can be cheaper or better timed. Fares start from AUD $610 per person return (checked 5 October 2026, prices change daily). Book early for December and January, when WA’s Malayali families all want the same seats.
Perth to Kochi: the one-stop routes compared
Perth is the closest Australian capital to India, and Kochi is one of the easier Indian cities to reach from WA. You will still change planes once. The question is where.
Via Singapore. The shortest and most popular option. Perth to Singapore is roughly five hours. Singapore to Kochi is about four and a half. Singapore Airlines flies both legs, and other Asian carriers cover the Kochi sector too. Changi is an easy airport for families and elderly parents, with short walks and plenty of seating.
Via Kuala Lumpur. Very similar flying times to Singapore. Malaysia Airlines typically connects Perth to Kochi through KL. Fares are often a little lower than Singapore, and KLIA is simple to transit.
Via Colombo. The closest hub to Kochi, but Perth to Colombo options are limited, so it usually suits a mixed-carrier booking. Ask us if dates are tight.
Via the Gulf (Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi). Qatar Airways and Emirates both fly Perth to their hubs and onward to Kochi. The long leg is Perth to the Gulf, about 11 hours, then four to five hours back east. A longer day, but Gulf carriers often have good baggage allowances and attractive fares outside peak weeks.
Which is best? Time matters most: Singapore or KL. Price or baggage matters most: compare the Gulf. We check all of them for you in one go.
How long is the flight from Perth to Kochi?
Total journey time depends on the hub and the layover.
Route | Typical total time | Good for |
Perth – Singapore – Kochi | About 12 to 14 hours | Fastest trip, easy transit, families |
Perth – Kuala Lumpur – Kochi | About 12 to 15 hours | Value fares, simple airport |
Perth – Doha or Dubai – Kochi | About 18 to 22 hours | Baggage, off-peak pricing, overnight flying |
Kochi is two and a half hours behind Perth, so jet lag is mild. Most Asian connections leave Perth in the evening and land in Kochi early morning. The kids sleep on the long leg and you arrive with the day ahead.
Perth to Kochi fares, and how they compare across Australia
Here are the fares shown on manntravel.com.au today. They are return, per person, economy, and they move daily.
Route to Cochin (Kochi) | From-fare, AUD per person (checked 5 October 2026, prices change daily) |
Perth – Cochin | from AUD $610 |
Sydney – Cochin | from AUD $559 |
Brisbane – Cochin | from AUD $669 |
Adelaide – Cochin | from AUD $753 |

Perth sits in the middle of the pack, even though it is the shortest flight. Fares follow demand and airline capacity, not distance. The from-fare is a starting point; the date you pick matters more than the city you leave from. And fly straight into Kochi: connecting through Delhi or Mumbai is rarely worth it for Kerala.
7 tips for booking Perth to Kochi flights
1. Book December and January travel now
WA schools finish Term 4 on 17 December 2026. Every Malayali family in Perth knows it, and so do the airlines. Fares for the week before Christmas rise steadily from October. If you are going home for the summer holidays, book now, not in November.
2. Fly midweek if you can
Tuesday and Wednesday departures are often cheaper than Friday and Saturday. Returning midweek helps too. Shifting by one day either side can make a real difference on the total fare for a family of four.
3. Watch the layover length
A 90-minute connection looks efficient on screen. With a toddler or a parent in a wheelchair, it is stressful. Two to three hours is the sweet spot.
4. Check baggage before you compare fares
Full-service carriers to India usually include a generous checked allowance, often 30 kg or more. Low-cost legs may include very little. A fare that looks cheaper can cost more once you add bags.
5. Keep everyone on one booking
One booking means seats together and one call to us if a flight moves. Split bookings across airlines are cheaper only until something goes wrong.
6. Students and teachers: use MannPass
Studying or working in education in WA? MannPass is free for verified Australian students and education staff. It takes an extra AUD $25 off eligible return flights to India. Each pass is valid for 30 days and can be renewed. It cannot be combined with other promotions.
7. Spread the cost with PayLite
Locking in school-holiday fares early is easier with PayLite. Pay a low deposit, then up to 26 weekly instalments before you fly, on selected refundable fares. Afterpay is accepted too.
Arriving at Kochi airport and getting home
You land at Cochin International Airport (CIAL) at Nedumbassery, about 30 km north-east of Ernakulam. Immigration is usually quick in the early morning. Keep your Indian visa or OCI card handy with your passport. Australian passport holders need one or the other, arranged before you fly through the official Indian visa website.
From the airport:
To Ernakulam and Kochi city: about 45 minutes to an hour by prepaid taxi or app cab, longer in peak traffic. Airport buses also run into the city.
To Thrissur: around 55 km north, roughly an hour and a half by taxi.
To Kottayam: around two to two and a half hours south by road, or a taxi to Ernakulam and the train from there.
Pre-arrange a pickup if you are landing with elderly parents or a lot of luggage.
Travelling with children or elderly parents
Wheelchair assistance: request it at booking, not at the airport. Changi, KLIA and the Gulf hubs all handle it well if it is on the record.
Meals: Indian vegetarian and other special meals are available on most carriers if requested in advance. We add them when we book.
Medication: carry it in hand luggage with the prescription. Check Smartraveller for the latest entry advice for India.
Seats: bulkhead rows for a bassinet, aisle seats for parents who need to move. Ask early; they go first.
